It’s not a “just think happy thoughts” thing!

The change in our thoughts is not about thinking good or happy thoughts. It is a not the “power of positive thinking. It is so much more. It is changing the way your brain and mind operate.

I have to admit that I have not arrived. I am definitely a work in progress. But here is what I know. The first thought(s) of the day sets the tone. If I get up thinking about the things I did wrong the day before or what I dread that day, I have already created the beginning of a negative spiral.

However, if I get out of bed with thoughts that align my day and my purpose, I am setting a different tone.

See, what you think and say first thing in the morning tells your mind’s which way to go. Your mind will go north or south. When I wake up with positive, optimistic thoughts, my energy becomes positive and optimistic. I am excited about the things on my agenda.

But when I wake up with, “I’m so tired.” “I don’t want to ….” “I dread …..” my mind follows after those thoughts. Even if those things are true, they are not serving me. And they won’t serve you.

We must be intentional and purposefully design our days. Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” ‭‭Whether you are a Christ-follower or not, that is truth and that is wisdom.

Plan your day with optimism and gratitude. Have a note on your nightstand with a positive thought to get you started. Plan in advance so that you don’t automatically begin down the road to indifference, insecurities, and bitterness.

“It’s going to be a great day”

“I can do hard things.”

“I love my life.”

I have two women’s retreats in November that will speak to these very subjects. One is a Christian women’s retreat on November 6 and 7, 2026.

The other is a retreat for female attorneys on November 13, 14, and 15 2026.
