What are you thinking?

Have you ever set New Year’s resolutions? Or midyear resolutions? Or beginning of the month goals? We all have. The problem with those things is that we try to change our behavior and we come into that from a shame and beating ourselves up.
It doesn’t work.
When I set goals, I used to start with the things I thought I had to do, rather than start with my identity, the stories that I would tell myself, and my emotional patterns.
What is the desired outcome? Who would I have to become to meet my goal? Who is that person who has what I want? What does she think? How does she want to feel about that goal? What does she eat? What is her morning routine?
You and I are going to start with thoughts. What am I thinking?
Who am I being. Who am I becoming?
What are the stories I tell myself about myself?
What limiting beliefs do I have that are keeping me stuck?
What is the one sentence that you’ve been focusing on that keeps you stuck? I have several. I’m not good enough. I’m not smart enough. I’m not thin enough.
My best days are behind me.
Once I get through this work project, I’ll work on me.
You may look around and find evidence for that sentence (or sentences) in your head and think that it’s true. And it may be true. But we can rewrite it. We can change our perspective. Plus, even if it is true, the thought is not serving you. So let’s change it or get rid of it.
We can all do that today.
Let’s start with the thoughts you think.
What is a thought you have been thinking this week that is keeping you from moving forward?
How can you change it?
Can you change your perspective?
How does it make you feel?
What can you learn from it?
Love to all,
Paula Blair
